Director: Michael Mann
Writers: Troy Kennedy Martin and Brock Yates
Main lead: Adam Driver as Enzo Ferrari
I’m not a big car lover, but I still enjoyed this 2023 film about the life of Enzo Ferrari. With its star studded cast, the acting was spot on. Every character was brought to life, every emotion was acted superbly, and every moment made me feel as if I was witnessing their real life. I recommend it, whether you are a fan of race cars or mini-vans, because it is a beautiful cinema experience. The scenery is Italy, and since Ferrari was not definitely not a boring guy, his complicated life story is interesting and historic.
Turns out, Enzo Ferrari didn’t have an empire of the fancy racing cars all his life. The company almost wasn’t, and this extremely well-told story takes the movie-goer through the ups and downs of him and his family.
What surprised me the most is not that Adam Driver did an amazing job portraying Enzo Ferrari, but that I never thought twice about it being Adam Driver. He WAS Ferrari. It was crazy, too, how they show you pictures of Enzo at end of movie and how much Adam Driver really looked like Ferrari.
The movie was set in 1957, and it focused on one major race that is 1,000 miles across Italy called the Mille Miglia. It was a huge event in the racing world, and, frankly, quite nutty. Absolutely crazy. But don’t Google it before you see the movie so you can enjoy learning about it while watching the movie.
Another fun thing about Ferrari is the cast. Shailene Diann Woodley (Divergent), Penelope Cruz, Patrick Dempsey (McDreamy), and other faces you’ll recognize plus alot of other faces you’ll want to remember.
