Movie Review: A Haunting in Venice

I experienced A Haunting in Venice in the theatre and loved it. Disclaimer: I am a HUGE Agatha Christie fan and this movie was based on her book Halloween.

The movie had great scenery – it was Venice, Italy, after all. I’ve never been there but have always wanted to visit, and the beautiful cinematography of Venice in the movie has made it imperative I go!

There was also great acting with an amazing cast. Kenneth Branagh directed it and also was the lead as Hercules Poirot. You’ll also recognize Michelle Yeoh, Tina Fey and more faces – they do a fab job of making the movie spooky and even a little scary at times. Not horror movie scary, but I did jump a few times!

The movie starts with Hercules Poirot helping a friend by attending a séance, which he wants, with all his heart, to discredit. The story behind the séance unfolds throughout the movie, and the séance itself is creepy. Just when you think you have the movie figured out, there’s a twist and you have to start trying to figure it out again from scratch. That’s the mark of a great mystery!

I recommend you see this movie in the theatre so you can get the full effect of the beautiful atmosphere and the spookiness. Enjoy!
